Now that's a knife.
Matt Helm is a custom knife maker in Texas.  He does AMAZING work, lending his craftsman's eye to every individual piece he makes.  A knife of his making is a rare gift;  I cherish mine completely.

Full size 3/16 inch thick asymmetric Pendley, with Dymondwood.

Consignment Shopping at Austin Furniture Depot

reclaimed barnwood and metal stars
I love consignment shopping.
There are a few really great places in my area.  Most recently I found one tucked into what used to be a Tex-Mex restaurant, which makes it all the more quirky for me.
Austin Furniture Depot - they have a great website.
I have visited this place at least once a week for the past two months.  It feels like a treasure hunt, and since they are constantly getting new inventory, you just never know what you're going to get.  This is probably why I'm addicted to it.  Every visit feels like the first visit.
And the prices are insane!

This $300 solid wood steal could have been mine
The good kind of insane...  you know, the "omg, why would you pay full price at Pottery Barn?!!" kind of insane.

Of course, the problem is that a lot of pieces are one-of-a-kind.  If you see something you like, hesitating on a decision could mean that you'll lose it.  I lost my opportunity on this reclaimed wood table for that very reason.  It was there one day, I saw it, I loved it!  I went home to measure my space, came back, and it was gone!  ARGH!   Note to self - always keep measurements on you, and buddy up to the shop keepers so you don't feel afraid to ask them to hold a piece for you.  They can usually be super accomodating, if only you ASK!  Which is what I should have done.

Oh well... there's always next week.  Maybe I'll see another I like even better...      the hunt continues!

The impressive McMillan Alias CS5

This is the McMillan Alias CS5.

She is a thing of beauty.  A suppressed .308 with low recoil and ergonomic pistol grip, this bolt-action bad ass breaks down into a back pack.  That's supersonic impressive.

There is something extremely satisfying about pulling a trigger on a gun, feeling hardly any movement in it, and then seeing your bullet collide with a steel target a second later at 1000 yards through the scope.

Pop, zing, ping.

Lovely.

A big thank you to McMillan Arms for letting me put a few rounds through her.

SilentRoses - fun, easy to wear, hand-crafted jewelry

There is something holistic about shopping on Etsy.  Perhaps it's the sense that you're buying something made by hand - made by an artisan; presumably from someone who poured love and soul into their craft, and now you have a piece of that to wear and love as your own.
Recently, I bought this piece on Etsy from SilentRoses.
I liked it mostly because of the bird detail.  It was something I hadn't seen before and it called to me.   It reminded me of homecoming, of coming back to life, of nesting, of being rooted to the earth in a natural way...
I love when jewelry speaks to me, so i claimed it and have since enjoyed it very much.  Thank you, Mei at SilentRoses!
It's so easy to forget in our crazy, busy lives, that there is a bigger cycle to life.  Nature is always happening underneath our feet.

It's not getting what you want.
