If you attack a police officer... you should expect to get shot.
I am growing increasingly more pissed off that the Ferguson incident is serving the narrative of victimhood, rather than it being a cautionary tale to those that would attack the men and women that have committed themselves to protecting innocent civilians. They're screaming "f*ck the police" in the streets and what they should be doing is telling their children: "DON'T f*ck with the police."...
YES, there are bad cops. But I'm willing to bet that they are few and far between the many more that are driven by a sense of true honor and duty for others. They go to work everyday, seeing the WORST of human nature. Gangs and thugs, druggies and whores, perverts and thieves... they're garbage collectors; only the trash they deal with talks, spits, and fights back. I cannot blame the police for relying on their training and gut instincts to merely SURVIVE their daily endeavors.
And YES, it's sad that an 18-year-old young adult lost his life before getting an opportunity to contribute to society; but this boils down to CHOICES. When you go into public everyday, you have an opportunity to make choices on how to act, what to say, how to behave... Stealing and bullying and attacking a police officer are POOR CHOICES. Digging a little deeper, the poor choices being made are likely a result of upbringing and toxic pop culture influences.
But instead of examining the roots of the problem, and encouraging people to improve themselves, everyone seems to be screaming that the police need to change; that the onus is on the police to make better judgment calls. They're even saying that police need to be trained to shoot people in the legs (Ben Carson!!). REALLY?! That's ridiculous! Ask ANY law enforcement officer and they will give you plenty of reasons why.
Here's a thought: How about we start with ourselves? How about society start making better judgment calls? How about we start saying NO to toxic influences? Let's turn off the garbage on TV that glorifies sin and profanity and violence, and people being famous for sex tapes and twerking. How about not playing stupid games like 'f*ck the police?' Not being a gangster-wannabe? Not attacking people? Not going after cops?
How about we start shaming the people that are wrecking it for the rest of us? How about we make them the monsters?
Everyone talks about wanting to improve their situation... Well, if your community wants to grow a better tree - start at the roots.
