Today's Maxism:

Me: "It's daddy's birthday, make sure you say Happy Birthday to him!"
Max: "Oh, do we get some cake?"
Me: "Well, I didn't make a cake."

Max makes a puppy dog face.

Me: "Sorry, buddy, cake isn't on daddy's diet."
Max (looking hopeful): "Uh, well, it's on mine!"

nice try.

Sleepy Head

This morning, Maverick woke up with a sleepy face...  and one arm mysteriously twisted up in his PJs.   I'm not totally sure how it got that way, but it didn't seem to bother him much.  To me, it looked as though he reached under his shirt, and then pushed his hand back up through the neck... all while his arm was already in the sleeve.  I can't imagine what was going through his head to make him want to do this, or how much effort it must have taken.  Although, he is a bit of a night time traveler - he likes to root around and push himself into different corners while he sleeps.  Chances are that this just happened during some routine scootching.  Oh well, I'm glad that he was fine with it, and I'm extra glad it wasn't cutting the circulation off.   I must say, though, the off-the-shoulder bed-head look is quite hip.

Naked Baby

Maverick is a little water baby.  He loves bath time.  In fact, he gets so excited about it that he fights his way to the tub, even before we have him undressed.  He babbles excitedly about the running water, and kicks out like a little frog when we pick him up to put him in the tub. It is entirely too cute.
Even cuter?  Naked baby butt.  I just happened to have my phone on me so I snapped this picture tonight of Maverick waiting (not-so-patiently) to get in.  He was hopping up and down, trying to figure out a way to climb in on his own.  I hope he's this excited about baths in 10 years....   okay, not keeping my hopes up on that one.  Oh well, at least I have photo evidence that there was a point in time where he looked forward to bath time!

Play T-Ball!

Oversized jerseys, oversized helmets.  Bats swingly wildly, balls going in unexpected directions, kids running the wrong way, or stopping to field their own hit balls, totally laying each other out while running in the base lines, or dog piling each other to get to the ball.
This year, dispite our last year's miserable attempt at soccer, we decided to try team sports again, but this time with T-ball.  We could be just beating a dead horse on this, but Mike and I really felt that team sports are one of the best ways to teach Max about the social skill of team work, and we also hope it will heighten his awareness that the actions he takes have a direct effect on the others around him (and vice versa).
Of course, more importantly, it's just fun.  And I do think he's really enjoying it.  We are, too.

Today was Max's first game.  He did wonderfully.  For the most part, he listened to instructions, hit and threw the ball well, and he even scored twice.    He only sulked a few times when he didn't get the ball.  When I asked him why he didn't manage to get it, he was able to explain to me that he had taken off his glove and wasn't watching when the ball came his way, and his other team mates ended up fielding it.  I asked if next time he would be ready, and he nodded.  Something seemed to click in him - I think he had a little "Ah-Ha" moment.  When he pays attention to what's going on around him, some exciting things might happen!
Well then, stay sharp #7!

    I am...

Rachea.  And I am a recovering Marthaholic.
There, I said it.  *sigh*   Years I wasted on perfection & trying to live up to someone else's standards.  Now I live for my own, on my own terms, & in the most unapologetic way possible.
