Sure Shots Magazine and the Fox Fur Coat

Recently, I agreed to be in a photo shoot for the cover of the official magazine of the Sure Shots -- a women's shooting group in Austin and San Antonio.   I'm super proud to be a part of this group  - they really focus on training and responsible ownership and are simply a fantastic sisterhood of shooters!
When the editors contacted me about the idea, I was happy to help - it sounded like fun!   But as the day of the photo shoot approached, I admit I was so nervous I nearly backed out... and it didn't help much that I started getting flu-like symptoms the morning I was supposed to meet up with them.  Yikes.  But I had committed, and I'm not one to disappoint, if I can help it. Besides, but you only live once, right?   So I threw caution to the wind and put on a 'go with it!' attitude.

I met them at a downtown bar that had a film noir décor (The Blackheart);  they did my hair and make up, put me in some amazing clothes, and then presented me with a HUGE fox fur coat that was big enough to fit a very large man!  It was hilarious trying to pose with that thing on -- I felt like I was being eaten up by it.   They squished it around me, pulled and tugged at it...  I tried to keep a straight face as the thick coat, like liquid fur, moved around me on its own.

Regardless, the photos came out fabulous -
big kudos to the photographer, Dustin Meyer (<-- Check him out!) --  and I'm glad the Sure Shots editors liked them!   I was beyond honored to be a part of such a great issue.

Adventures with Papaw...

My dad calls.

... Me: "Hey Dad."
Dad: "Hey...ummm - you know that errrr .... that shirt Maverick had on, uh, I guess it was yesterday?"
Me: "yeah..."
Dad: "The one that says "HUNK" on it?"
Me: "yeah...."
Dad (snickering): "Well, uhhh... you might wanna check it before you throw it in the wash."
Me: "Why? What... what's wrong with it?"
Dad: "Well, I put a couple of pieces of tape on it."
Me: "tape?"
Dad (laughing harder): "Yeah, I covered up the bottom leg of the H (ha-ha-ha) and then put another piece across the top (hah-ha-ha) to close it off... (hoo-hoo-hoo!)"
Me: "errrr... ok?"
Dad: "Make sure you find it before you wash it -- it's the shirt that says 'PUNK' now."

click.

Me: "Wait, what?!! DAD!!!"

Today's Maxism:

Me: "How was your day?"
Max: "[kid-from-school-who-will-remain-nameless] was mean to me."
Me: "Oh no, what happened?"...
Max: "He hit me on the shoulder and said he was going to get ME expelled from school!"
Me: "What? Why would he say something like that?"
Max: "I don't know. I told him he was a conehead."
Me: "A conehead?"
Max: "Yeah, a conehead. (shrugs) It's a figure of speech."

I know only one person that says 'conehead'... Papaw!

Today's Maxism:
We're reading Lego Shakespeare 'the Tempest'. Max is giggling.

Me: "what's so funny?"
Max: "it says Alonso is the king of nipples! Whoever heard of such a thing?!"...
Me: "Max, read more carefully - that says Naples."
Max (skeptical): "Naples?"
Me: "yes, it's a place. Look and sound it out."
Max: "oh.... Well, king of nipples is still funnier than king of someplace-i-never-heard-of-before."

    I am...

Rachea.  And I am a recovering Marthaholic.
There, I said it.  *sigh*   Years I wasted on perfection & trying to live up to someone else's standards.  Now I live for my own, on my own terms, & in the most unapologetic way possible.
