The Extra Day Off

12/26/2014

When the boss called and said we were all getting the 26th off this year, we were ecstatic.   An extra day of holiday?  Fantastic!   Now, what shall I do with my extra day?

When you work as much as I do, one of life’s sweetest rewards is simply taking a moment to just sit and relax.  To do nothing – no phones, no email, no texts, no travel, no hair, no makeup, no fussy business clothes…  Just keeping the couch from escaping the pull of gravity, all day, in my PJ’s.  Ahh, it’s bliss!  ....  For about 15 minutes.

I admit:  I’m terrible at sitting still.  Never a game of “statue” has ever been won by yours truly.   Even my massage therapist claims I am her worst “relaxer.”   I suppose I just don’t have it in me to rest when I know there are at least 100 better things I could be doing with my time.

And, then, there’s the boys.   Who can relax with two – make that 3, if you include my husband – wild animals roaming your home, who have the same compulsion to be busy-all-the-time as you do?  They cannot be trusted.  There are constant random thumps, and screams, and splashing sounds...  they are certainly not at rest, so neither am I.   Before I know it, I’m on my feet, chasing, playing, scolding, refereeing, tidying, cooking, cleaning, organizing, and completely blowing off a perfectly fine opportunity to couch vacation today.

And you know…  it was the best extra day.

    I am...

Rachea.  And I am a recovering Marthaholic.
There, I said it.  *sigh*   Years I wasted on perfection & trying to live up to someone else's standards.  Now I live for my own, on my own terms, & in the most unapologetic way possible.
